I have a screen that reports only FullHD through DVI but is higher res and works just fine under X when I give it a custom Modeline

As far as I know, atm, kwin won't like it if you pass a custom modeline string.

KWin first needs to learn how to work with custom modes.

It is IIRC possible to override the Edid for the kernel though, which should then also affect the drm modes
