Chia is designed around making spare space farming possible and profitable - as long as that is the case, whales are competing against farmers who have next to zero cost, and the whales’ benefits to scale won’t be enough to overcome that. So in the long run, the whales lose.
Also, even now there has never been a cryptocurrency with as many active nodes as Chia. As we approach 1,000,000 nodes, it is vital to keep in mind that 100,000 new users each adding only 50 TB each to netspace is 5 EB of new space added to the network.
