Famous Dutch "Bitterbal" snack added to list of Dutch immaterial heritage
Ilona de Wit, also known as the Queen of Bitterballen, has completed her mission to get the traditional Dutch snack listed on the Dutch list of immaterial heritage.
"Eating Bitterballen while having drinks" is now officially listed part of Dutch immaterial heritage.
You can't readily get Bitterballen in pubs or cafes anywhere in the world, except in the Netherlands. You can order Bitterballen in Belgium, but only at the friture (Belgian snackbar), and almost never at a pub. Indonesia has Bitterballen at some places, but they are only consumed by Dutch expats.
