Thank you for expressing an interest in joining Telegram as a Content Moderator. We would like to offer you a series of short test tasks to make sure that we fit well together.

A moderator quickly processes information and makes decisions based on sets of predetermined criteria. Most of the test tasks will offer challenges that test this ability.

For each of the tasks, you will use a specialized interface. For optimal performance, we recommend using a computer with a keyboard (and not a mobile device) to complete the tasks.

Task 1: News or not?
As the first task, you will be given 300 articles to sort into 'News' and 'Not News' using a simple interface with two buttons (use “1” and “2” on your keyboard for speed). The sorting criteria are listed below, read them carefully before you start.

Aim to complete the task in under 1 hour. If your score is high enough, this bot will send you the second task later this week. Please complete the task by 23:59 UTC on Thursday, February 6.

Criteria for Task 1
News is when something happens. News articles usually answer the question "what happened?" In most cases, the article's title will be an answer to that question (but there may exceptions).

Non-News Examples
- Historical articles ("How the Portuguese first went around Africa").
- Encyclopedia-style articles, tips, how-to's ("Kenyan wildlife", "How to choose a router?").
- Timeless opinion articles ("Why democracy isn't suitable for the Middle East", "Gun control is bad for air quality").
- Reviews for books, films, games, gadgets, shows, cars, restaurants. But if they get reviewed as part of a launch announcement, it's news.
- Lists without anything happening ("Six reasons to stay home for Christmas", "7 wonders of the modern world", "Best laptops of 2019"). But if something happened, it may be news. E.g., "Here's a list of Golden Globes nominees."

Notes
- News grouped together is still news ("A roundup of last week's news", "Today's hot topics").
- Weather forecasts are news.
- Scale doesn't matter. A drunk raccoon spotted in Germany, or a power outage in a small village – are both news.
- An interview covering many different topics and views of a person is not news.
- An interview or comment about a specific recent event is news.
- Real-world articles aren't always easy to sort. If no criteria fit, make your choice – we will compare it to our own decisions.
