PHP fwdays'18 conference is less than in two months, and we are very excited to announce you our first speaker and his two amazing talks. Meet Derick Rethans - a frequent lecturer at conferences, the author of php|architect's Guide to Date and Time Programming, and the co-author of PHP 5 Power Programming. He has contributed in a number of ways to the PHP project, including the Xdebug debugging tool, and various extensions and additions. He is now working at MongoDB, where he works on the PHP driver for MongoDB, and date/time related server features.

In his first talk, Derick will cover the latest additions to Xdebug. Although it is 15 years old now, many features have been added in the last few months and years. In this talk, he will introduce and explain these new features, and some more notable features added in the last few years.

In his second talk, Derick will make you grow up from just starting with MongoDB to a seasoned user, by teaching you how to design your data schema according to your application's needs. He will also cover how to pick indexes, different types of indexes, and way to find out why queries are potentially not as fast as they could be.

Marcel's talk will cover a lot of aspects of how to create voice-powered applications on your own. He will cover the general idea of how these devices work, will demo an HTML5 powered example application and will talk about how to create custom Alexa skills using PHP.

Сейчас сижу в терминале в Остине (Техас) и странным образом интернет пускает только в телеграм. Потому, напишу наверное что-то типа отчёта о первой американской конференции на которой я был.

Итак, это Longhorn PHP, организованная техасским сообществом. То есть просто собрались друзья и замутили конференцию. Несмотря на то что это их первый раз - сделали офигенно. Даже взяли докладчиков из Европы - джорди и нильса (composer), дерека (xdebug) и меня (Codeception). Людей порядка 200 человек. Очень много было keynote и softskills докладов, но были и хардкорные по devops, security. PHP доклады я как-то все пропустил). Зато люди очень дружелюбные, все общаются, никакой не ловкости от того что я первый раз не было. Было много посвящено теме accessibility, в одном зале даже писали стенографировали доклады и показывали их текст на большом экране. Это делали по просьбе одной посетительницы, которая в итоге не пришла 🙄
