I hope this letter finds you well! My name is Wonyoung and I study the open mapping culture in South Korea and the United States; recently, I have studied the OpenStreetMap (OSM) data in North Korea. Surprisingly, in some areas of Pyongyang, for instance, it is drawn even more densely than Seoul. It would not be possible without the 889 contributors, including you. I think this data seems to be super important because South Korean researchers have difficulty gaining access to the information environment in North Korea. However, the problem is that the residents in North Korea are not allowed to use this beautiful map and valuable data, since they don't have access to the internet. Thus, it is hard to answer the questions like how you have access to the internet -  if you're in North Korea, or where you live, and most importantly, why you contributed the data. I wonder the reason you have contributed to the OpenStreetMap data because of the research purpose, or just for fun. It would be great for you to share the motivation, to understand the information technology environment of North Korea better. Particularly, considering the fact that North Korea is far from the US software market that has been dominated by Google or Microsoft, I suspect that this OSM map is a result of state-led effort. В Южной Корее наоборот, наезжали на меня, грит, зачем бочки по снимкам рисовал, они устарели, ну ладно, отвечаю, тру зе граунд, окей

Я тут пытался и вспомнить, и, кажись, я об ОСМ узнал через мапсми. Потому что до этого скачал его, найдя в поиске, когда ездил в Грузию.

То есть не узнал, что он есть, а узнал куда зайти, чтобы исправить в карте ошибку.

А в осм пришёл через гармин етрекс :)

молодежь) осм познавали обычно в поисках адекватных карт для garmin vista =)

русса гис была такая прога и вот в ней я разглядывал свой город. а потом заверте

я осм познал через википедию, когда там к геоссылкам букву О прикрутили)
