Six states and the District of Columbia, generally ban the open carrying of long guns (rifles and shotguns). In the 44 remaining states, openly carrying a long gun is legal, although in three of these states (Iowa, Tennessee and Utah) the long gun must be unloaded.
Therefore, it is legal in Louisiana without a permit for anyone at least 18 years old that is not prohibited from carrying a firearm. Some areas are off-limits, including parades and bars.
