Nasa is sharing some news literally out of this world! The space agency says its spacecraft TESS has spotted over 2,200 potential planets since 2018. Scientists say the discovery could mark a major milestone for space exploration.
Originally starting its mission in 2018, the satellite has mapped about 75% of the sky and found 66 new exoplanets, planets orbiting other stars, as well as nearly 2,100 potential planets which range from small, rocky worlds to giant planets showcasing the wide range of planets in the galaxy.
Now only about 120 planets have been confirmed but as scientists work to confirm the other discoveries, TESS’s large haul promises a possible explosion in the number of known exoplanets.
There are still so many things unknown when it comes to space. But now NASA has captured evidence of thousands of possible planets beyond our solar system that could be just like Earth.
