Take a glance at one of the greatest noise/drone albums of 2000s: "Alms" by a duo from Montreal named "Re:"
Re: is Adam Evens and Ian Ilavsky. Ian is also a member of the famous Silver Mt Zion, a co-founder of "Constellations", a label that produces a number of legendary artists, namely God Speed You Black Emperor and Jerusalem in My Heart. Ian has been very active in Montreal noise, experimental, DIY and punk scene.
As for Adam Evens, he's also an anarchist critical thinker and philosopher of digital media. His academic work focuses on questions of digital and analogue sound, the ontology of noise, and the cultural implications of digital media.
The album "Alms" is a critical reflexion on the "war on terror" that was going on in Canada in 2001-2004 as reaction to the 9/11 events. With tracks such as "Lasers, Tracers, Radar Drones", "Home Security" or "Radio Free Ramadi" the album guides us through a dystopian universe. Alms is an invocation and critique of the distortions and remainders generated by the violence of the war machine. It is also a confession, of computer indulgence and easy access to technology, of leisure and the freedom for creative play — a tiny sonic treatise on the poverty of our times and how we shield ourselves from it. This is not ambient music, or electronica. Please play as loud as possible.
