Returning to Trump vs Biden question:
Dems want to establish popular vote. Biden himself likely won’t but Kamala will. Trump and Republicans are preserving the electoral college.
All Dems now go for expanding the government. This means more taxes, and ultimately more dependence of people on the government, both through public sector jobs, and welfare. Which means easier means to control more people. Republicans for the most part go for smaller government, getting rid of excessive regulations, agencies, functions, or outsorcing them into private sector — this means decentralized design.
Now there’s a concern that Trump is kinda expanding the executive order power — it’s valid, but so did the 3 presidents before him. This potentially threatens checks and balances, but I guess some day the Supreme Court will just decide the solution.
But in general, it’s also about giving a vote to the party which supports the more robust society architecture — even if you dislike many of its policies, you will be less affected by them, because there’ll be more power to the more local levels of government, and so, ultimately, more power to you. Hence Republicans, hence Trump.
