I’m a little bemused that David Backer and apparently Nikhil Pal Singh think that the passage they quote from the 2002 Political Power & Social Theory symposium on the race/class debate is in any way at odds with, rather than a substantive critical foundation of, the arguments I’ve made about identitarianism that they don’t like. I suspect that fanciful reading may be linked to a desire to vindicate a notion of “racial capitalism,” which is ultimately what some in these debates have described as “bothandism,” but with a raiment of grand theoretical pretension.

Meagan Day - Bernie’s New Internationalist Vision

Sanders’s speech yesterday, titled “Building a Global Democratic Movement to Counter Authoritarianism” and adapted from an editorial he wrote in the Guardian last month, was a yardstick measuring his progress in this task to date. In it, he spelled out a dual opposition to authoritarianism and oligarchy. Sanders emphasized throughout his speech that economic inequality and wealth concentration are corrosive to democracy, and in turn to civil rights — a refrain we’ve heard from him many times in the domestic context. We must develop a global movement against unaccountable state and corporate power, which are mutually reinforcing, he said.

В разговорах о конце неолиберализма есть очень большая доля условности. Она основана на допущении, что неолиберализм, как и другие идеологии, являет собой способ властвовать над умами в политическом пространстве. Мой тезис заключается в том, что неолиберализм исходно не нуждался в системном идеологическом оформлении, поскольку это, в первую очередь, технология управления. Безусловно, некоторые неолиберальные идеологии были предложены уже в девяностые, и они по-прежнему включены в политическое состязание: товаризация общественных фондов, рынок без границ и регуляторов, гибкий труд. Но сфера использования технологий куда шире, чем запрос на их доктринальное оформление. Именно поэтому неолиберальные модели легко монтируются с самыми разными идеологическими установками в разных частях мира, от США до Саудовской Аравии, от Австралии до России.

Развитие экономики в Сети и отсутствие как такового контроля со стороны государства рождают определенные представление о нанимателях фриланса. Типичный наниматель фрилансера может представиться как молодой предприниматель-одиночка, только недавно начавший свой бизнес. Или нанимателем станет маленькая компания, занимающаяся дизайном или разработкой игр и приложений на Android. В такой системе «малых элементов» как будто нет места огромным мастодонтам Интернета вроде Google или Facebook. По крайней мере, так подсказывает воображение. Однако это не совсем так. Aleida Guevara March, the daughter of Ernesto Che Guevara and Aleida March, recently traveled to Europe, where she participated in several discussion rounds explaining the popular consultations taking place in Cuba for the country’s proposed constitutional reforms. She also campaigned against the U.S.-sanctions against her country. Before returning to her work as a pediatrician at William Soler Children’s Hospital in Havana, we had the following talk with her.

Empire and Imperialism. A Critical Reading of Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri

In 2001, the Harvard scholar Michael Hardt and the independent Italian left wing intellectual Toni Negri published a modern critique of imperialism. The book was widely criticized by left wing intellectuals who felt that the book posed unfortunate implications for political resistance to imperialism, and that it ignored both the experience and intellectual analysis of thinkers from the South. Atilio Boron is one of those. He argues that Hardt and Negri's concept of "imperialism without an address", though well intentioned, ignores most of the fundamental parameters of imperialism. The nation state, far from weakening, remains a crucial agent of capitalism, deploying a large arsenal of economic weaponry to protect and extend its position and actively promoting globalization in its own interests
